Dear Readers,

This month we bring to life some of the positive stories out there relating to recycling and waste management. The first article shows how society is starting to play their part which has resulted in a 32% increase in recycling. Not only is this good for the environment, it has aided in creating jobs and employment. Fantastic to see! The separation at source project which was started by Pikitup has been a success thus far with nearly 2000 tons of recyclable waste being diverted from Johannesburg's landfill sites. The second article covers this success story.

The third article highlights the success of retailer, Pick’n Pay, in becoming one of the greenest and most sustainable retailers. Pick ‘n Pay received 2 awards at the African Access National Business Awards and a third award was received at the M&G’s “Greening the future” awards. A clear example of what large companies should be doing towards saving our environment. Finally we see how communities can get involved with waste management and recycling projects. The “All hands on Waste” project in the Eastern Cape received the award for Environmental best practice in not-for-profit organisations at the M&G “Greening the future” awards.

As always, it has been a pleasure putting together this issue of the eJournal. We value your feedback. Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have any comments or suggestions for future articles.
