We recently received the following email from Angus Ryan, the General Manager of the Cape region for re-:

“A common scenario exists in Cape Town, where there is an abundance of scrap wood – often from broken pallets. Whilst there are established groups who look to repair pallets, and also companies who try to use old wood, there is a mountain of a problem with scrap wood being sent to landfill!

One of our clients fits the trend of having too much scrap wood, and thus we would look to have disposed of it into landfill. But a new member of the re- Cape Town team, Malusi Rhorwana, asked if we could take the wood to his home, where he would look to re-use it. We did so, and a week later Malusi showed me what they have done of the wood.

Whilst there are a number of great stories relating to one persons waste being another’s gold, it means so much more when you get to see it first-hand. So I just wanted to share this with you, and that there are cases of people “walking the talk”.”
